The X-wing is a versatile Rebel Alliance starfighter that balances speed with firepower, armed with four Laser Cannons and two Proton Torpedo Launchers.

Laser Cannon

Pew pew! The manual doesn’t give lore snippits like a traditional gunpla build so I’ll just commentate.

Proton Torpeo

I had a real Mandela effect moment while building this as I couldn’t remember if it was “Proton” or “Photon”.

Astromech Droid

I just had to paint him up like R2-D2.

S-Foil

They lock into attack position. I always imagined you went faster or were more agile when they weren’t deployed.

Enough Customization to Make It Feel Like Your Own

The kit includes options for landing gear, however it requires a lot of parts swapping and I didn’t build it out since I only plan to display the X-Wing flying.
The cockpit hatch opens for access to the fighter.

He’s a super scuffed but I’m happy with him. I used Char’s red and needed to mix the orange myself.

The X-Wing for Every Pilot

+ Very customizable! Includes a standard pilot as well as Rey, multiple astromech droid models, and a couple basic stands.
+ Includes two sets of decals, standard sticker type + waterslides.

– The Laser Cannons are made up of several components that easily jostle out of place or disconnect from the ship. Easily fixed with modeler’s cement, but something to be aware of.
– The water slide decals can be a little ……optimistic.. at times. The small, finely textured areas (console, engines, pilot helmet) will struggle to have the decals apply. The cockpit hatch sections each have three different faces the decal needs to stay applied to.

The kit throws you right into the deep end with very detailed parts from the beginning. It’s a terrific example of how much effect panel lining has on the end result and I had to come up with some new approaches.

I think this would be a fantastic model for first time builders, it isn’t perfect but it has a wide variety of included options and having traditional decals as a safety net made it my perfect introduction to water slide decals. I plan to eventually top coat it and will share some updates below once that happens.
